The Sierra Sun published an opinion piece on July 27th, 2024 by Steve Frisch, President and CEO of Sierra Business Council: Alpenglow Timber Sawmill is critical to the sustainability of our region, economic well-being.
"In the end the project will benefit the entire community and its neighbors by allowing us to scale up forest management in the region. Sierra Business Council strongly supports the proposed Alpenglow project and encourages residents to read the environmental documentation and comment in favor of granting a use permit to the Alpenglow facility." (Sierra Sun)
The Sierra Sun published an article on July 19th, 2024 on the Alpenglow Timber project: Proposed Sawmill and Wood Processing Facility near Truckee Sparks Community Response.
“The project will work to enhance community protection and wildfire risk mitigation by processing logs from forest health and fire recovery projects. It will also create 10 permanent full-time jobs and more than 15 indirect jobs, with an annual economic impact of $5.4 million. The site is zoned appropriately, and studies show minimal traffic and noise impact.” (Sierra Sun)
Letter to the Community:
We are reaching out to provide an update on Alpenglow Timber’s Use Permit application with the County of Nevada and seek letters of support for our project. Both the project application and completed county CEQA documents are available for public review and can be viewed at the link in blue below.
The project is confirmed for the Nevada County Planning Commission meeting on Thursday, August 8th at the Truckee Town Hall at 1:30pm. The county staff have confirmed their support and approval recommendation for the project.
In advance of the meeting, Alpenglow Timber and its affiliated forestry company, Cross Check Services, are seeking letters of support from project partners and other interested entities or individuals. Preferably, letters would be sent to the county by July 29th, 2024, but will be accepted until August 7th 2024. Letters can be emailed to:

If you are interested in sending a letter of support the letter can be very basic. A strong letter will clearly state your support for the project and reference the reason(s) behind your support and the value the project provides both locally and for the larger region. For ease in composing a supportive letter, we compiled and now attach a fact sheet about key elements of this project proposal for reference. These facts are by no means all encompassing! If you have a different reason for supporting the project, we are most appreciative of you communicating this to the Planning Commission.
For further information or if assistance in preparing a letter would be beneficial, please contact either myself or Steve Frisch at the Sierra Business Council at sfrisch@sierrabusiness.org or (530) 562-4995.
In appreciation, David Mercer
